Nope, and it's something the call center worker can just do right over the phone, as opposed to something like an income-driven/income-based repayment plans which you have to apply for. I've done this for years with FedLoan Servicing, and so the only thing I'm not sure of is how it will be handled if they transfer it to someone else, but I have no reason to believe it will be any different. The customer service workers obviously don't care or are sympathetic, and I believe these providers are incentivized to find ways to keep borrowers from defaulting.
