If I had a penny for every slur I've seen since I started playing multiplayer games I'd be able to make a life-size copper and zinc replica of the Sun. If I had a dollar for every slur I've seen in the past two weeks I'd be richer than Bezos.

Honestly fuck gamers. Little weasels make my fucking blood boil.

no heat, but i feel like you say this way more often than it actually happens

i guess there could be a hardened squad of inbox infiltrators running around issuing death threats whenever someone dares to criticize the sacred slop but this doesn't really feel like that kinda space

          That does leave an impression

yeah that's fair, i can definitely see how that might be the case. esp in (what i consider to be) as friendly a space as this is, i think it'd be rather jarring to get hate for what's functionally a difference of opinion on something of ultimately very little importance

i did not call you a moral monster, go reread the comment i said that about the iliad, you did not write the iliad. sorry if you took it personally but that was not what i wrote. im not out to get you i literally only took issue with your example.

do you really think i have beef with you or that i was just trying to avoid exactly this comment happening by trying to be as clear as i could that i was not defending anything and just bothered by your use of the iliad in the way you had? the last time i talked to you you immediately assumed bad faith and accused me of being some dedicated hater. i wanted to avoid something like that. :shrug-outta-hecks: clearly it didnt work.

i think i remember reading some of the discussion you're referring to, though i believe i mighta bowed out before it got uh that heated

idk for what little it's worth, as someone who once greatly enjoyed grrm's work i think you've definitely got some good points about the fetishistic focus given to certain atrocities that isn't present in stories that depict similar sorts of suffering

even if hypothetically (:debate-me-debate-me:) you were totally off base i'm not sure how it'd justify being that shitty over a work of fiction though

honestly as time has worn on i've grown far less tolerant of certain habits ol' george is known for. i still enjoy the thickly plotted interwoven parts, but gruesome doesn't really do it for me much anymore, unless it's happening to deserving targets (and part of the conceit, more or less, is that it very rarely, if ever, is)

we are 100% on the same page with dune, it was the first full-length novel i ever read and to this day i still recommend it as being hella worthwhile, despite some of the absolutely wack shit in it (poor chani) and herbert's eventual conservative bent

honestly despite how easy it is to do, i'd try hard not to take it to heart. people can get weird about all sorts of bizarre shit, and who knows, maybe they were having a shit day irl and decided to take it out during your discussion (not that that makes it more acceptable, mind)

hell, maybe they were even lying about not having read it as an attempt to sidestep the accusation of being "upset that the thing they like is being critiqued" :shrug-outta-hecks: you never know!

i honestly believe that's (at least in part) often an attempt to adopt the posture of "hmph, i don't have a horse in this race"

that sort of detached only being logical, bro attitude that people think makes their argument unimpeachable

not too far off, and presumably coming more from a place of being offended than like, malicious hatred

but if you let one drive you to the other... :shrug-outta-hecks: it's hardly any better (or different) at that point
