It's been 8 years since I bought it and it still runs like a champ but ideally I'd like to actually utilize the 4k portion of my monitors.

Current Build:
Processor: Ryzen 7 3700X
Motherboard: ASUS B550-F
RAM: 32GB DDR4
GPU: GTX 1060 6GB

Ideally I'd like to hit at least 16GB of VRAM since I'm of the opinion that if I'm gonna spend more than $500 on a graphics card, it better at least last the next decade of new releases gaming wise. My motherboard can probably stand an upgrade too since I have a bunch of unused USB-C ports due to the fact that the B550-F doesn't have any 3.1 headers.

Don't really have a budget but I'm posting this in the hopes someone will tell me "don't buy the 4080 super you idiot" and inform me of a better, cheaper, alternative majima-dapper

    Get a used or refurb 3060 with 12gb memory. You can find them for under 300 bucks and theyre great cards.

    Save your money for if you ever upgrade to a system with pcie5. Prices always go down over time (unless they dont).

      thonk Isn't the difference between PCIe 4 and 5 for like the top of the line cards basically negligible??

        True but why not save money in the meantime. If you're sticking with nvidia your best bet is 3000 series cards as the 4000 series are not as good of a value for not much more performance.

    I picked up a laptop last year with similar specs but a 3080TI and if those are coming down in price, would recommend. Absolutely tanks everything I've thrown at it so far on max settings.

    I had a 1070 for about 6 or 7 years that did really well! It was still chugging along when I got the new laptop, but other parts of it were breaking down so thats why I upgraded.

    yes I know the firmware isn't open source but fuck the HDMI & DRM consortium for that

        It also handles Stardew Valley like a champ, even the update that just came out lol.
