I was listening to a podcast where somebody gave a perspective on a film that I’ve never encountered an opinion centered within the analysis of that particular confluence of perspectives.
I learn from while also deriving pleasure from reading reviews/critiques/analysis of an artistic work. More so when the authors ideology is clear and present. It helps me understand the worldview and perspective more while also deepening my understanding of the cultural impact and value of the work within a cross-section of all society
For example: a site I could go to if I wanted an explicitly gay review of the original fast and furious. Perhaps with the option to add or subtract additional filter tags regarding the review. Hell, maybe a site for Marxist film review that simply does a good job indexing old content with searchable tags. My desire is strong and my standards are low, provided I’ve made general gist clear. The vibe, if you will.
I would be more than happy to simply learn of movie review sites with an explicit ideology. Being able to explore cinema within a centered ideological view is valuable enough to overcome having to traverse multiple sites.
i think review aggregators by design focus on a very narrow kind of analysis, that is, answering the question of whether it's worth the price of admission and your one free night a week. a reviewer having a unique or interesting perspective probably precludes their review from showing up.
you might try getting into "video essays," but i won't recommend any youtube channels unless you want me to
[yes i want you to]
