I hate the way people talk about "redemption" in general in the context of politics. Obviously Nazis should get the wall, but in general, if somebody used their position of power to do shitty things, and now they've changed and want to do better - fine, I can accept that, just get the fuck out of politics. Go volunteer at a soup kitchen or scrub floors at a monastery or idk, just wait tables or some shit. Live out the rest of your life in humble penance, maybe trying to make things better in some small way. But if you're still trying to be in charge of things, and just want to keep playing the game, but for good now, you swear, then you haven't changed at all, and chances are the only thing you regret about your past actions is that they're hurting you now politically. The concepts of redemption and forgiveness, so central to Christianity, pretty much exclusively apply to the rich and powerful, and to the extent that they can get away with anything if they just say, "I'm sorry."

So no, people can't have "redemption," fuck you. I'm so tired of these chucklefucks thinking they can invoke some magic words and everything is set right again, just total refusal to hold anyone accountable for their actions.
