    the national socialists in the early 30’s behaved the same way though. massive and usually ingenuine backlash against any questioning of their character or that of their leaders, to help convince each other and onlookers who hadn’t picked a side yet that they were being victimised.

    i don’t think this should be read as weakness, but rather of a collective desire to raise the temperature higher and create more justification for them to take drastic actions.

          It's disappointing thinking about how the US could almost certainly unite against a common "bad guy", but a nation-wide health crisis is just old news at this point. Not to even mention the existential threat that is climate change.

          They don't care about their friends and neighbors, just whether or not their team is winning
