is there any way to play Diablo 2 with friends when you pirated the original (i.e. not the remaster, I have LOD) cause you really don't want to give blizzard money
I also don't have any money but even if I did I wouldn't want to buy resurrected cause piracy is a moral imperative when it comes to companies like blizzard
If you're open to a modded version of D2 (especially if you like Path of Exile), I can't recommend Path of Diablo enough. You download their launcher and play on their realm & servers, so your version should work fine I hope? Lots of QOL improvements, more rune drops, and an active trade tool + community. I would totally reinstall and help y'all if you're interested. :party-blob:
you can get the costumes at most halloween stores or online. finding rowboats is more difficult. you can 3D print guns.
In theory you should be able to run a virtual LAN that tricks it into thinking people on the internet are part of your local network. Then you can just play a LAN game instead of battle. net.
We used to use Hamachi, but I guess that's no longer a great option. I haven't used it, but GameRanger came up on a few lists of good alternatives, so that may do the trick.
Radmin is an alternative to hamachi and tunngle (rip). I do think there's a way to just bypass simulating lan but I can't think of what it was.

You can just expose TCP port 4000 from the computer running the LAN multiplayer session to the Internet and people can connect via your WAN IP.
Pretty certain there's a private server version of battlenet out there that probably allows cracked clients to connect. If not, I think you can go on open battlenet with a pirated copy or do a lan game with someone else.
Original Diablo II? Yeah, it's dead simple. Just host the multiplayer as a LAN game and expose the port hosting it on your computer to the Internet (known as "port fowarding"). You'll have to login to the admin page of your WAN router and navigate through a couple menus. Then your friends plug your IP:port into their client and it works just fine. I've played through D2 twice doing this with different folks over the years.
You need to forward TCP connections on port 4000 to your computer.
Use https://canyouseeme.org/ to test that it's open.
Most games that have LAN functionality (which unfortunately a lot of more modern games don't) can manage that by just getting all the players into a VLAN. There's various programs for that - GameRanger is probably the easiest to use, although it only works for games that are explicitly supported (which does include Diablo II).
