If they did this the actual war would be a threewy split. EU pushing south with Canada. China pushing north with Mexico. US holdouts in the center of the country where there is nothing worth taking and it would be hard to dig them out.

The US has too much that the great powers can't let fall into their opponents hands. All those nukes would have to be secured, a bunch if valuable oil infrastructure, and all kinda of military assets.
