So I just started Grad School in computer science. Came to know that I need to start prepping for internships for the summer of next year right from now. The problem is
- I have a three year gap after my Bachelor's in computer science. Partly due to being undiagnosed with ADHD and partly the pandemic. The only "tangible" work I did back then was as a technical recruiter for a few months.
- I have next to no projects that I worked on right from my bachelor's till now. Again due to not knowing I had ADHD so I just coasted along. The only reason I am in grad school in the first place is due to me finding out I had ADHD and taking steps to cope with it. (S/O @crime )
So my question is what can I do in the coming months to land an internship? And how do I justify the gap in my resume?
I wouldn't lie about anything that you're not capable of faking if they give you some kind of test or else you'll probably just be wasting your time. The guy I had spoken to was already knowledgeable about the jobs he was applying for but just didn't have the experience to back it up.
Yeah that's my problem. There is a gap between the knowledge I have and the competency required by the positions as a result of not learning for the past three years. I'm just wondering if I can somehow make up for that gap or a part of it in the coming months while bullshitting on my resume.
I'm not sure what to recommend other than maybe figuring out a project you could work on or going through your old course work to shake the cobwebs. I gave up on getting an IT job because filling out dozens-hundreds of applications and never hearing a response makes me wish for death.
