I am itching to learn. It's just this
Just land a job
part that's the problem
So is OOP even worth studying atleast for interview purposes? (And java is the only language I'm decent in :agony-wholesome: )
Also, I should give the functional programming intro video that's been sitting in my watch later playlist for 6 years a shot eh? Or is there an even better programming paradigm?
Kleinberg and Tardos
I'm taking an Algorithm Design course this semester with this textbook being the main reference and boy am I intimidated to attempt any of the questions  . You got any advice on how to approach/think about those excercises?
Gotcha. In my case, I'm more interested towards Software Dev and any subjects that might be useful in that domain
The Adult ADHD toolkit is the only book I've read on this and it has been very helful so far. Here is a link to download the book in either pdf or epub format.
Just try to finish the finish the first 7 chapters. They're the most relevant imo.
One example would be the spiral of negative emotions I felt when I thought I messed up or when someone would think less of me. The emotions would be intense and I'd be on a self-hate train. With CBT, I have become more aware of how those thoughts can lead to negative spirals and have been able to if not completely eliminate, then atleast mitigate the effects of those automatic thoughts that inevitably come. Helped a ton in managing my anger as well.
And the crazy thing is, I didn't go to therapy for this. I just read a book on CBT and just doing that has given me amazing results. Not to mention all the improvements in my productivity from applying the other tools in the book.
I'm graduating in mid 2024. How fucked am I? :doomer:
CBT fam. Helped me not only with being more productive but also in managing my emotions a la RSD.
say some shit about finding yourself about your computer science bachelor’s. And then corona hit and you lost track of time but realized you actually love computer science so went for a master’s.
This is actually true lol.
Really it’s a lot of bullshit about crafting a narrative about why you’re a winner and you have a hot hand until you graduate.
Gotchu comrade. Now I just need to make myself competent enough to build projects and pass any kind of test they put in front of me. Just wondering if I have enough time to do so.
I do incidentally have a career fair coming up so that might be a good opportunity to network. My only issue is converting the opportunities into a internship with my current level of skill(or the lack thereof).
I'll look into it. There is a career fair at my university in the coming weeks open to all levels of students so I'll check it out.
No unfortunately . I did work on a IoT project and a machine learning one but that was mostly the other people in my class group. I contributed a miniscule amount and have forgotten all that I learned then.
Will 6-8 months be enough to learn and execute the projects?
you’re not capable of faking if they give you some kind of test
Yeah that's my problem. There is a gap between the knowledge I have and the competency required by the positions as a result of not learning for the past three years. I'm just wondering if I can somehow make up for that gap or a part of it in the coming months while bullshitting on my resume.
Should I lie with relavant experience to the position I'm applying for or with experience that's not related to it? And if its relevant, how do I not expose myself during the interview phase?
What is this mythical sleep technique?
You've crystallized all the points I was concerned about.
Cost of living differences, especially with the shorter Masters’ duration, will be wiped out by your much higher signing bonus, salary, and stock in a year or two. The point of a Masters’ in CS is pretty much solely to optimize for jobs.
This pretty much sums it up. Thanks for your input comrade. Making this post was worth it after all.
Well I spoke to two dudes who recently graduated and they're both jobless lol. But I have seen other profiles who are employed. On the other hand, many of the CSUN profiles I saw were working in FAANG tier companies hence my hesitance.
Wow, thanks for the compehensive reply comrade.
I only know about OOP. Where can I learn about other useful programming paradigms?
Can I ask why lol?
Is it really that bad? What causes it to be worse than other tech jobs?
