      This is exactly why I always self identify as a communist when prompted. It may or may not be the most technically accurate term by the book...but it certainly clarifies to inquiring parties that you don't mean "sweden" or something.

      I will say in defense of people like source that I don't really think its their fault. I've often said that modern day political labels are a gordian knot of contradictions to untangle. We don't just have progressives calling themselves socialists, but also have liberals calling themselves progressives, conservatives and fascists who call themselves libertarians, et al. I suspect a lot of this is basically fallout from the bad faith anti communist propaganda of the cold war.

      For better and for worse: language is a fluid thing and policing definitions at a certain point is just futile.

      Yup, just swapping words.

      "Progressive" or "social democrat" is now "socialist"

      "Socialist" is now "communist"

      "Communist" is now "tankie"
