    It was illegal to advertise medication to the public until Reagan. Before that point, pharmaceutical companies were sending ads like this to doctors.

    i've tried many drugs but nothing ever completely sapped everything that made me human like thorazine did. absolute miracle drugs for psychoses and even severe bi-polar. but as someone with ADHD anything that actively blocks dopamine is like the worst kind of hell. no drive, no focus, nothing. i wasn't prescribed the stuff but had some in an emergency kit for terminating bad trips and ended up taking some before i had to do a short stint in jail and it was just like utterly zombifying and not at all like benzos or tranqs.
    and the whole 60s "chemical straightjacketing" where they would just load you up on ungoldly dosages of thorazine no matter what your mental health needs were was just as fucking evil as physical torture. basically take away the ability for someone to feel pleasure or motivation at all.
