It's a volunteer position for which they get shit on endlessly. And let's be honest, this site would tank without them. Being a mod is often just shitloads of work. Franky, if offered the chance to be a mod, I'd turn it down.

I've seen an endless number of forums, left and non left, go to utter shit because the mods have an ego. One of the things that drew me into r/CTH was that the leadership team didn't take themselves too seriously.

Furthermore, the mods in the following pages can please go gargle my unshaved balls:

r/unpopularopinion

r/AITA

r/worldnews

r/politics

This website unironically helped me overcome my knee jerk instinct to distrust all authority. I directly see the good that comes from moderation here and the execution is a skilled mix of hands off and communicative as necessary. People are free to pull back the curtain, but the process remains pretty simple and it’s by no means a requirement. Hundreds of people browse this site every day without needing to know how the megathreads or the bulletins or the mod staff or the book club or the cytube is organized. It Just Works(tm)

I miss all the drama usually. I think I've encountered one wrecker in the past.

Friend, they're not complaining. They think everyone here does a really good job. There is no stirring here and you've definitely got the wrong end of the stick, this is a positive post.

EDIT: Hmm account has 1 comment.

Possibly they've just seen a lot of bullshit and they're really triggered. The account does date back to Hexbear's founding though.

I mean it's certainly possible that it's one of the first devs that got burned out by mod stuff (that's exactly what happened and it's the reason devs and moderation are kept extremely separated these days) but something's off about it. The post seems pretty hard to misinterpret this heavily.

Beatnic (spelling??) got dragged through the mud pretty bad over what looked a lot like a hit. I wouldn't be surprised if it was him.

Nooooooooo they're still in contact and still very positive with good relations. Just busy offline to my knowledge.

That was definitely a hit though.

I had a post too, once, about Gloria La Riva's status as a write-in candidate in my state (apparently gone due to Albanian Bunker Mode); this is my alt for when I don't want to say things on my main. I mistook OP for someone else and responded based on that false premise. But I stand by what I said about the drama that's been ongoing of late.

I see! Well I don't think much drama has been happening personally. Whatever it is has no practically no impact on the vast majority of the userbase and should just be ignored. Don't let it work you up like this it's unhealthy!

Does hexbear use any important features that are still not in upstream lemmy? I wonder how much effort it would be to migrate the DB and emojis and just start over.
