The board for any Japanese game is bound to be populated by hentai-brained imageboard otakus threatening grave consequences if a single pixel of underage anime titty is removed. People with just straight up Nazi avatars are also pretty common depending on the game.

In this case all this pre-emptive pants-shitting about censorship and altered costumes is especially hilarious since as far as I know, the Wii release Mask of the Lunar Eclipse did not even have any fanservice in it, much like the original trilogy of Fatal Frame games.

It was only the fifth game where Tecmo went full Dead or Alive with the series, adding panty shots, bikinis, wetness mechanics and big jiggly boobs even to the ghosts.

the steam forums are a shotgun blast of random threads

"here's a really detailed bug report for the devs : )"

    "something completely incomprehensible"

    "Linux version when?"

"THIS GAME IS NOT LIKE ANOTHER GAME OF A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FUCKING GENRE AND THEREFORE BAD"

    "DAE want a fourth reich?"

Why is it that these religious fucknuts scream day and night that all sexuality is "DA WERK UV DA DEBBIL!" but think games are not sexy enough?

I wouldn't care if they played games to get their rocks off. Just don't say I am going to hell because I like guys, simple as.

The xcom chimera squad forums were hilarious and I'm 100% convinced the devs are making the Marvel game at least partly because they have no idea where they went wrong.

Reactionaries were saying they "Made Xcom woke" and leftists were saying they made Xcom into neoliberal garbage it was all very funny.

I don't know why steam even keeps that abomination around outside of workshop item discussions and even then if they're not just a sticky topic by the mod author they tend to be a nightmare.

I've had this same thought for a few years now, steam is pretty much a shithole just like reddit. I don't buy anything on it anymore and I use it maybe twice a year and on top of weird shit like this is just fucking sucks as a whole.

You know the difference between social media where they use algorithms to push only a small range of stuff for you to see compared to the traditional forum where people can post anything and it will stay at the top right?

Not saying Steam isn't bad but if you looked at any of the bad subs and just looked at new it is just like this. And Reddit at least pretends there is a moderator system, Steam forums very rarely have any and I believe all they can do is lock or move threads but not delete?

Steam tells them to not delete or close threads, specialy those critical of the game. You can look at their moderation rules. Unless it breaks the usual user guidelines they usualy can't do much which means companies don't want to invest time into moderating Steam forums because it gives them no benefit.

Even removing/closing a thread called "no bikini no buy" is going to be seen as censorship of negative opinion of the game.

Steam is bad but imo it is not worse than any sub stuck on new and without a moderator. You are right it is a bad look, but the issue is more with the Steam platform itself imo.
