I'm a crust punk that is super into 80s goth and new wave and heard chromatics because David Lynch and I want more along those lines!
Shadow rules and Chromatics in general have proven yo be really really fucking good.
Beach House -sorta kinda there but feels a little overproduced and clean and technical. Also the YouTube comments for the song are the most pretentious things I've ever read so maybe that's partially my fault. I should check out more first bit it's a bit sterile feeling. I dunno, it's not bad but it's not quite thee. Chromatics are my baseline ATM and we are on similar levels of exposure. If the genre isn't what I think it is, that's totally cool cause I have a se.i clean slate if I rip off The Chromatics for a band.
Edit: Desire fucking nails it. That's the slop.i want for when seasonal affective disorder hits.
I hope zomeone can help us out. So far I just really love Chromatics and am starting to think dreampop might just be one post punk band
I think Crumb counts as dream pop but leans towards psychedelic, but you should listen to them regardless. Definitely one of my favorite bands. This is the song I first heard from them, and is probably the most popular: https://youtu.be/BqnG_Ei35JE
Most (or maybe all) of their music is great though.
It's similar but different enough that I actually really don't like it. Nothing personal, just taste. I can totally see the angle you're coming from.
Loveless byMy Bloody Valentine and Oncle Jazz by Men I Trust are my 2 favorite Dreampop albums
HAVEN'T! My tastes generally lie in bands with guitars that sound like vacuum cleaners and lyrics that are " WAR BAD! AAAAAAAAAGH! AUUUHGHFH! WAR BAD!"
well songs from them soundtracked a bunch of the first 2 seasons of twin peaks, and the theme song comes from the instrumental backing track to one of them. but the albums are floating into the night and the voice of love, they're both good and they have some stuff that didn't end up in the series.
and lynch and cruise only collabed because lynch wanted something that sounded like this mortal coil, so you could also check them out
From my current random YouTube listens, you guys know this is just like...og goth music. It sounds like twin peaks feels and I'm here for it.
Alvvays is neat no idea if they still count as Dreampop but would be shame not to do this: Alvvays - Very Online Guy
