For tonight’s Slop Night, join us for Letterboxd’s #1 rated movie of the 1940s. Yes, the number one, out of over 15000 movies, even rated above Citizen Kane and Casablanca. It’s The Red Shoes (1948)! Think of it as the 1940s version of Black Swan or Whiplash, in that it’s about a performer being pushed to their psychological limits. And you know what, fuck it, the #3 movie on the same list is also on Youtube, so let’s give it a whirl. It’s Yasujiro Ozu’s Late Spring (1949)! Expect something understated but cozy, and maybe a little sad, along the lines of other Ozu films like Tokyo Story, if you’ve seen that. Yes, that’s right, we’re watching two of the most critically-acclaimed films of all time tonight. But it’s okay, because any film made before 1970 automatically qualifies as slop.
We’ll start at 9PM EST, right here on Cytube: https://cytu.be/r/hexbear
Be there, comrades!
