Honestly I loved the line after he asked her if she would stay wth him if he was broke "if I was ugly and fat would you be with me?"

    Critical support for life

Idk it seems pretty fucked up to give even critical support to someone who's a domestic abuser. Just reverse the genders and think of a guy breaking phones, screaming at the top of his lungs, and slapping his girlfriend whenever she said something he didn't like - it's instantly obvious that those things are not okay in the context of any relationship unless the American was seriously abusive to her off camera.

Yeah, she has a point about the relationship being transactional and the American being into her for her looks, but often domestic abusers are very good at using a kernel of truth to justify their abuse.

I don't disagree with you, but you can't just reverse genders here. The power balance between a wealthy man and a woman who came from poverty are vastly different.

It wouldn't be acceptable if a wealthy American woman imported a man from somewhere poorer and he acted like that either, which is what I was getting at.
