The US "national security" position against PRC tech firms introduced under Trump hasn't gone away.

The ban marks the culmination of years of warnings from security researchers, analysts and intelligence agencies that the Chinese government could use Chinese-made telecommunications equipment to spy on Americans.

      COULD

      Lmao

We literally have evidence of the US SPYING on the world, not that it could be spying on the world. But yes, china is the scary one.

Also why would I give a shit if China is spying on me? China has little to no control over my life. The thing I care about is MY GOVERNMENT spying on me, because they’re the ones that can kick down my door and drag me out in handcuffs

China can sell you treats which is infinitely worse than Facebook and twitter voluntarily selling data to the government

One of the more possible (though still highly unlikely) situations is IOT switches that phone home. The US made some stink about the possibility of China being able to toggle them remotely to overload circuits and explode transformers with an oscillating load.

Which immediately tells me that the US made ones being sold to other countries are absolutely capable of doing that and I should probably stick with the Chinese ones.

I checked mine and didn't see anything phoning home, the Amazon and Google ones both phone home to a server somewhere. Ostensibly for reading your account linked calendar, but it means it's absolutely available for exploitation.
