I was thinking about this today, since I'm close to finishing the game I'm currently playing. I think this year will end up being 4 games for me, though they're JRPGs so it takes me a while longer (and I usually try to 100% games I like)

Finish can also just mean play until you're satisfied too. So maybe a better question is how many games do you usually play each year?

As far as online games go, I'm also playing Splatoon 3 and Overwatch 2

Rogue Legacy 2 looks great. Maybe I'll try that when I finish the game I'm playing now. Is it a long game?

its as short or as long as you want to make it

it took me about 20 hours for my first playthrough but you are meant to beat it several times as each NG+ adds new bosses and such all the way to ng+7

you dont unlock the true final boss til NG+7 (ive not fought them yet, they're entirely optional and you have to do everything in a single run which is hard)

I bought 53 games this year and I finished 48 so far. Keep in mind most of these games are under 10h and some are only like 2h long. Lots of indie games, some big strategy games like Total Warhammer 3 and Crusader Kings 3....waiting for Victoria 3 to release. Dont really play any competitive multiplayer games. (I do dabble in coop games like Deep Rock Galactic though)

    Finished 53 games in 2021 and 30 in 2020.

    1. depends on if a game is "finishable" see:Rimworld, EU4, etc. While they all have an ending, I usually either don't bother to achieve endgame conditions or see the end of the time limit.

    2. If a game has a concrete finish, then I will most likely finish it, this year I finished Mother 3 and Earthbound (second time) and Fallout: New Vegas. And least year I got done with the main story of the Pokemon Pearl remake. Thinking back, I finish at least 1 game a year, sometimes up to 4. All depending on how many new games I try out and how many older games i revisit.

I play a lot of games with endless replayability, and I kinda just rotate between them: Rimworld, Darkest Dungeon, X-COM (both new and old school), Hades, Invisible Inc., Slay The Spire, Paradox games (although I've kinda soured on them bc they're not very satisfying for the time commitment imo), FTL, Oxygen Not Included, Don't Starve, etc. I never really know when I'm for sure finished with them.

Finish? Almost none, even games that I'm really liking I start getting squirrely about playing them the closer I get to the finish. I really liked FF7R but stopped a little bit past the plate section, I really liked Prey but I never touched the DLC or explored alternate endings, etc. I guess I would say I play about one new game per month until I lose interest.

Almost all of my game time is spent playing a dozen or so games that have mods for days and can be played forever without beating them - Rimworld, Workers and Resources, and Skyrim all jump to mind. When I was a kid my top games were Starcraft: Brood War and Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast/Academy, but the custom game/mod scenes for those two kind of died out so I finally ran out of stuff to do.

like a couple dozen I think, going by your definition. Though I caught roguelike brain a year or so ago, so maybe take that down to like, 15? If we're counting itch.io stuff it's probably a lot more.

For the past two years I've been recording the titles of games I beat ever year, this year I'm at 23 (2021 I counted 25 so seems I'm going the same pace). It's like my pet project to help get thru my back log. My secret is to play a few games at once, some short ones to help with motivation, and a longer one on the side.

Sometimes never ending games can be tricky so I kinda come up with an end goal, like if it's a farming game, getting thru the first year.

When I'm bored I go back and replay old games until I find something new so it's hard to give a confident answer but I would say that there were six new games that entered the rotation that I felt satisfied with this year.

I'd guess probably four or five. It depends if there are major releases I'm really interested in. I finish most main Mario/Zelda/Halo games. I also tend to replay random Halos throughout the year but I don't always finish them. I play through half life and half life 2 and the Portals every few years. This year I got into Spiritfarer which I'm probably an hour away from beating. I also started playing Cyberpunk again since I enjoyed the show but I doubt I'll make it all the way through again.
