It's a calculus the donor/political class might have made, but I think a great many liberal voters are just so deep in the kool-aid they forgot what water tastes like. They wouldn't know material conditions if it slapped them in the face - they have absolutely no conception or framework to make effective sense of their world. They honestly can't understand the world they themselves built.
