And in some of the snowy states in the US they put a shitload of salt down on the roads if it even might snow or freeze, which turns all the steel on your car into rust over the years. There are so few affordable used cars that won't be a maintenance nightmare in some of those places.

That's extremely cheap for any car of that size, let alone an EV. For comparison, the average price of a new car sold in the US is $47k.
