Safety issues aside there's actually a bit of a social aspect to this. Due to the prevalence of both carpooling and slow traffic many young people and families use the entertainment system for the passengers. Karaoke is really popular iirc so in order to stay competitive all new cars have to come with these features.

That's extremely cheap for any car of that size, let alone an EV. For comparison, the average price of a new car sold in the US is $47k.
And in some of the snowy states in the US they put a shitload of salt down on the roads if it even might snow or freeze, which turns all the steel on your car into rust over the years. There are so few affordable used cars that won't be a maintenance nightmare in some of those places.
That's the price of a Corolla and half the price of some Tesla models, not a bad price
