China still has a lot of social reactionary elements to deal with, but it's nothing unique and it seems that when the WHO declassified it as a mental illness, the state followed suit, but the connotations are still there.
With Cuba finally codifying protections into law, hopefully it'll be easier for the LGBT activists in China to begin pressuring the CPC to adopt similar legislation, though it'll be a long hard battle. Seems like the bigotry against trans women (and men) in rural China is pretty equal to American bigotry.
Also seems like the only places you can actually get real treatment is the big cities like Beijing and Shanghai.
