Hot fall, new season just dropped on the US east coast
80F now, 29F at night next week. Yeah it's Southeastern US time.
Feel so bad for my dog. Loves the cold, constantly hot in anything warmer than 70s. The last cold snap was heaven for him and now he hardly wants to go out :deeper-sadness:
It's annoying though, because we got like two weeks of cold weather first, so most of my garden plants that would have done great in the extra warmth are dead already
Yes :angery: I brought in my plants that can't survive <40 degree temps and left out the ones that need winter dormancy periods. well, the ones that were supposed to be dormant are now waking up again like "bro its spring again??" :angry-hex: :whywhywhywhywhy:
Like if I knew it was going to be 80 degrees again in two weeks, I would have covered my peppers or something to keep them alive. But the day before first frost, the 10 day forecast just showed cold every single day, so I went ahead and pruned them to the ground. :deeper-sadness: I guess I should have expected this, but it's still annoying.
And yet with all this heat in the fall, I still can't plant citrus trees in 7b. :marx-angry: It'll get cold enough to kill them for like two days through the entire winter, but that's apparently enough
I do not recall distinctly when it began, but it was months ago. The general tension was horrible. To a season of political and social upheaval was added a strange and brooding apprehension of hideous physical danger; a danger widespread and all-embracing, such a danger as may be imagined only in the most terrible phantasms of the night. I recall that the people went about with pale and worried faces, and whispered warnings and prophecies which no one dared consciously repeat or acknowledge to himself that he had heard. A sense of monstrous guilt was upon the land, and out of the abysses between the stars swept chill currents that made men shiver in dark and lonely places. There was a daemoniac alteration in the sequence of the seasons—the autumn heat lingered fearsomely, and everyone felt that the world and perhaps the universe had passed from the control of known gods or forces to that of gods or forces which were unknown.
What is this from?
Edit: oh I knew I recognized it. Nyarlathotep
I think about it whenever Hot Fall happens, which is more and more these days
Meanwhile the UK now basically has such hot, droughty summers that the country almost becomes desertified and then autumns with constant rain and floodings and then stormy and/or ice cold winters. Very cool and normal for a place that used to be on the colder side of temperate (colder the further north you go, obviously).
See sweaty you just have to look for the silver lining; all those silly "scientists" are too busy complaining to see the gift god is giving us in this beautiful weather.
If I gotta wear like sleeves, a light jacket, or something, though nice, means it's slightly inclement
65 on the other hand works with any clothes. It's not too warm that you'll get overheated in a sweater, but not cool enough you can't wear shorts
My dad
I love him, but growing up in the Caribbean turned his brain into a hothouse tomato
I hate this because it sounds so eerily close to what some people I know might actually say.
Perfect afternoon to pull out my camping chair and jool in the shade on my lunch break. Oh wait, there are no leaves. :angery:
Lol it's so fucking strange. Just went for a short walk in the woods behind my house, just bizarre feeling
Someone tried to tell me this was "Indian Summer"
Which, no
Also, there has to be a better name for that phenomenon
There are a bunch on the wikipedia page, my favorite is "pastrami summer"
We were doing this at like the same time. I also came to the same conclusion of pastrami summer. The Irish "little autumn of the geese" was also nice
Hot Girl Summer is now invading other seasons, Megan Thee Stallion is an imperialist
Happening here in the Midwest too, though the cold is just starting to creeping in
Me in California: yes that's called autumn
You might see a leaf change color
It's the combo of leaves falling and warm that's the weird part.
Well we also have 50 degree weather one day and 90 degree weather the next
AKA "winter"
The breeze is still cool and the leaves are on the ground but I’m hot outside. My body is so confused.
