I remember this genre of prank caller videos where somebody had a Miss Cleo soundboard and a section of it would be like...

    Cleo: "You're a Libra, aren't ya darlin'?"
    "Nope."
    "Yep."
    "No, I'm not."
    "Yeah, hah hah hah."

    it would absolutely kill me.

And she kept telling everyone that she saw "a new baby!" in their future. Like, EVERYONE.

Astrology can be fun but some people take it wayyy to seriously. It is fundamentally anti-materialist, is rooted in classism, and has, throughout history, been used to justify religious oppression. You always gotta keep that in mind.

I remember doing something similar with my cousin one time. Got her to guess random people’s signs. She was right about 25% of the time. Which sounds impressive right? I mean, that’s three times better than just guessing (1/4 instead of 1/12).

Nah. She used “rising signs” and other things to basically give three months at once. If any of them were right, then she got the point.

Even then, when she was wrong, she used to say that she got close because some signs are pretty similar.

At that point all I could do was laugh.

People were discriminated against based on their zodiac sign?

Maybe not institutionally but I’ve seen a very small minority of people who take it seriously enough that they can be a little prejudiced towards certain signs

Still are. Indian astrology is heavily linked to caste and social status. Peoples’s horoscopes are used to justify casteist oppression and prevent inter-caste marriage. It determines when and who you should marry, when should you travel, when should you start a new job. It’s endless.

Again, not everyone believes in it. But a lot of the older, more traditional folk do. And those are the people who have power: politically, economically, socially etc. Younger people tend to believe more in “western” astrology.

Astrology is a part of what keeps the caste system alive. People turn to these astrologers for everything, from medicine to college admissions etc. even if the more “liberal elites” from major cities turn away from these things, the vast majority of people still continue believing in some things or another. And belief in just one of these things links you to all others - hatred of Muslims, Dalits, women, LGBTQ etc.

And all of those, all of those, are pushed by the capitalists at the top to keep the population divided.

This became long. Sorry, I was just rambling. I’ll think about writing it up properly in a post sometime.

Nah definitely not. I have tons of black friends and acquaintances that are super into it. Actually the first time I started noticing it being super prevalent was from a black woman client of mine

A friend of mine once had someone hit on him like she was trying to have a one night stand with him up until she asked his star sign and he said he was a leo (at which point she immediately stopped speaking to him and ignored any attempt he made to talk to her)

Astrology, especially this sun/moon/rising thing, reminds me of RPG character builds. Maybe these people should give Elden Ring a try.
