      Yes, their goal was never to declare independent and more toward peaceful reunification, which is able to get mainland money and ensure stability for investment. While for DPP, they basically run on red scare, to the point that investors got spooked and run away, thus destabilizing the economy.

        This is why Taiwan politics is both brainworm and absolutely fascinating. Many vocal young and aesthetically “progressive” and “socialist” types support DPP cuz they think KMT represents the interest of capital/transnational capital (who wants a cut of China’s growth. These same ones were also clamoring for Trump in 2020.

        The KMT has accused Tsai and the DPP of being overly confrontational with China, and of trying to besmirch the party for being "red" - a reference to the colours of the Chinese Communist Party.
