Edit: More recent update on his situation after a fund raiser raised enough for him to avoid homelessness:

"The real issue isn’t whether or not someone like me should be able to access MAID. It’s whether or not we, as a society, wish to continue making people’s lives miserable and hopeless enough that suicide – assisted or otherwise – becomes a viable option. Or whether we are willing to choose to take steps that would make these people’s lives bearable enough that they won’t need to."

Edit 2: Medical assistance suicide under Capitalism and under the hands of the government is a horrible idea without any proper safeguards from abuse https://twitter.com/Lefty_Mind/status/1595443123324436481

People are made so poor as a policy choice that they would rather die and the big ethical discussion is not about said policy choice but about whether killing yourself is too easy.

The liberals clutching their pearls over this never gave a shit about people like this man. They're perfectly happy with him being tormented as long as it happens quietly so they don't get uncomfortable. They would consider the issue to be resolved by taking away his opportunity for MAiD, condemning him to a fate he considers worse than death.

I really wish people's taxes went to just taking care of people man. This is so bleak and dreadful. Poverty is such a actionable and fixable problem but we don't ever move the funds to the people/systems that need it.
