Concentration Camps were commonly used by both the British, Germans, Americans, Spanish and Dutch during the early parts of the 20th century. Concentration camp just means a racist prison in essence (My translation might be slightly off here, but most people here get it). The Nazis did not invent the concentration camp. Hell, they didn't even really invent the extermination camp, since the German Empire had created some in Namibia (German South West Africa).
"Nine chances out of ten we'd both wind up in a concentration camp", a line from the 1942 film Casablanca, based on a play written in 1940. People had known about the camps since the early thirties when they first opened.
