On this day in 1980, four Catholic missionaries from the United States working in El Salvador were raped and murdered by five members of the El Salvador National Guard.

Their names were Maura Clarke, Ita Ford, Ursuline Dorothy Kazel, and Jean Donovan. Although they were ostensibly missionaries, the nuns were also political radicals, with Maura Clarke having supported the anti-capitalist Sandinistas in Nicaragua.

Although thousands of native Salvadorans had already been murdered by death squads there, the killing of these missionaries prompted international outrage and criticism of President Carter's support for the government in El Salvador. Although Carter initially suspended aid to the regime, he later reinstated it, and President Reagan continued this support.

After the release of declassified documents in the 1990s, New Jersey congressman Robert Torricelli stated that it was "now clear that while the Reagan Administration was certifying human rights progress in El Salvador they knew the terrible truth that the Salvadoran military was engaged in a widespread campaign of terror and torture".

Time to accept that 3 hours of sleep just isn't enough to properly study coding at work today, so I'm going to read fanfics instead

I used to sleep 4-5 hours a night like my father and grandfather, and feel rested.

Was sick once with swine flu years ago, and now sleep 6-7 hours min. Ever since then it feels like a part of my life has been taken from me.

Oh no, that's a big loss

I can get 6 hours and be okay, maybe even 5 a few times a week, but 3 has me feeling so spaced out. I can get by, but focusing on learning something new is definitely not happening today

Yeah, my grandfather slept 4 hours his entire life.

He worked two-three jobs as a young man and retired when he was in his 50's. Travelled the world into his 80's. Envious.

My dad has this superpower and uses it to get more drinking time in at the local bar.

Got any good recommendations for Korra fics? I read Instincts of a fearful body a while ago, which is about if Korra grew up with the red lotus, and the first part is pretty decent. Second is a bit weird and lib but that's what you have to expect with Korra media lol

            Yes!

Korra, Not Alone reimagines the time she spent recovering after fighting Zaheer. Instead of only writing Asami once, she gets visits from people and goes more in depth on her recovery process. It's a pretty great read

Thanks for recommending, I'll check it out! I feel like the relationship fics are the best ones for Korra because the politics of the show are ultra lib
