this is amazing! I love this kind of music but don't know what the genre would be called
they walk the line between post-rock and noise but they're kind of one of a kind. dead flag blues is kind of the goat for me personally.
canadian post-metal ambience is what i've found googling. emphasis on canadian
Symphonic post-rock, with dark americana vibes. It's a niche within post-rock unfortunately but there's some really beautiful stuff out there that's similar to GY!BE:
Thee Silver Mt. Zion, their side project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sD2cPL5rDM8
Kashiwa Daisuke- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ei7cdynwRMA

Dark americana is another of those sounds I chase, as a result of The Dead Flag Blues, but similarly there isn't much standout stuff:

Yes dude yes. "Lift yr skinny fists like antennas to heaven" is one of my favorite albums, I got to see them live twice.. a bit jealous you get to listen to their music for the first time, lol

Dooooo iiit
Yeah alright that's a good recommendation, need music to work to
I also saw them live, one of the members of GY!SE, I think the sax guy, refused to face us the entire concert, he literally played the entire concert with his back turned to us, what was up with that. Also I stood next to the guy who projected visuals on the background, he was using two old timey projectors and actual film to match the luciferian towers album art grainy look.
Its great accompaniment to stuff. I found this album the same time I first read the collected works of Lovecraft, and now the two are forever linked in my head. Which, Static + Music of Erich Zann does fit almost too well.
I'll have to give that a shot sometime. I love me some Lovecraft. The Nameless City is my favorite of his short stories.
If you're discovering GSYBE and liking them, check out Thee Silver Mt. Zion Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band
The album that changed my musical trajectory and conception of art forever. Hello again old friend
I'm eternally grateful to someone on Steam who recommended this album. When I was first really getting into music there were so many different particular sounds I liked but that never came together. This was like Gorillaz' Demon Days. It synthesised all the isolated elements I already liked into a whole new frontier of things I liked. The Dead Flag Blues sparked half a decade of new tastes.
Also someone on Hexbear made this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlyDxGqZswM
bowing the strings of electric guitars with short lengths of pvc pipe for 10 minutes? check.
(edited to indicate that I'm totally good with that)
Hell yeah brother!
Still my #1 fav band, since I first listened to them 20 years ago.
Check out Luciferian Towers by godspeed you. Could be this sites anthem.
I saw one of the original pressings of this in a record store once. Unfortunately, they were aware of what they had so they wanted $300 for it.
