Hopefully that puts a dent in companies that crunch. Why crunch when you can just go to some other studio?

Would a noncompete stop you from starting your own company and making a game?

Legally it possibly could, but it's also a deterrent for people who might would have otherwise but were so afraid of potential legal costs/ramifications to even approach investigating whether they legally could or couldn't.

That's what I also figured. Plus thinking about this now, it would also mean your friends or colleagues in the industry couldn't join you either.

Apparently one of the System Shock remake's later delays happened because some of the devs working on it were moonlighting while working at another studio. Then that studio got bought by Epic which introduced non-compete clauses and the devs had to quit working on the remake

completely irrelevant since nobody is going to invest any money in a company making an "original" game in 2024
