Its definitely more of a 1980s School House Rap than 2020s Sound Cloud Rap. But half the lyrics of "My Shot" could easily end up in a Drake album. The themes of love and ambition and violence cut across the genre. Nobody is going to confuse the rhythm or pacing of a song from Hamilton with Wicked or My Fair Lady.
As a musical category, its rap. And if we're using "what people enjoy listening to" as a gauge of quality, its good.
I enjoy Scroobius Pip and Tech N9ne so yeah drake isn't exactly what I'm looking for, My Shot though I did like. I guess I was expecting more on the rock side of rap then the disney side being people were talking about Hamilton like it was the next Le Mis not The Lion King.
I mean, I never really got the appeal of Le Mis, so... shrug. And I'll happily admit there was a bunch of romantic filler which sounds - at best - like R&B.
But, like, anyone who says "Washington on your Side" isn't quality rap music... I mean, come on. If someone had done a Stalin/Trotsky play with this kind of music, Hexbear would be all over it.

Not sure I heard that one was it in the second act? I'll give it a listen, I'm always willing to have my mind changed.
I mean, the politics is all still crap.
