China basically makes Rolex quality watches for $80 now with sapphire, milled stainless steel and everything if you don't want to feel bad about accidentally damaging your watch

I felt terrible about damaging vintage Soviet goods

:yea: I used to regularly wear a modern Vostok reissue of the original Komandirskie (made in Russia mid-2010s) to avoid this. Then I had a kid and didn't want to risk dealing with importing another from Russia if it got damaged so I wear the true watch of the proletariat - cheap Casio.

I want to get a Seagull 1963 aviator watch eventually, but really can't justify the expense right now lol.

I got mine here after someone recommended them on /r/Sino

The models vary but I got the default looking Rolex, they are mechanical and have that self-winding thing.

The one I got was sapphire, the band was defective so I changed it but the newer models should accept standard 20mm bands.

It's the nicest watch I've ever seen, I wouldn't buy anything sold in the US now lol

I think they're a bit more expensive now but they have sales pretty frequently

      Rolex quality

Rolexes are like 95% hype. They're neither particularly well made or complex, especially for the prices they command. A Chinese brand like Seagull or even the current Russian Raketa can make the same quality of watch for a fraction of the price.

You're exactly right, which is why I got the cheapest mechanical diver with a good build quality I could find lol

I bought mine for $60, but the dome sapphire, ceramic dive ring and magnifier make it a better watch than I've ever seen anyone else use :stalin-feels-good:

It sat in my garage under a whole bunch of boxes, exposed to sand and concrete and the like, and the only scratch on it is on the stainless steel.

Every other watch I've owned was destroyed in a stupid way, especially the Timex quartz watches with the date window. The batteries aren't user serviceable so they are useless to me after a few years and also the date windows broke for no reason.

I'm only buying mechanical watches now, at least they'll last 5 five years of use at minimum and don't wear out while I'm not wearing them.
