The slur filter is a clbuttic mess. I suspect it's creating more problems than it's solving.
the one that came with lemmy was a victim of the sremovedhorpe problem, then they fixed it
but then for reasons known only to the dev team, kinda walked it back?i want to be allowed to call myself slurs, but i don't want other people to call me slurs, unless they're cute and i like them. i think the technology already exists to implement this policy.
why ntot jsut have an alert system and review queue so mods can just quickly look over offending comments with context and only make them not display the word if it's actually bad?
requires more free labor, mods are already fairly busy I imagine. I wish the filter was just a little better. Even doing an allow list of dictionary words with slurs in them would help.
