"Xmas is a capitalist holiday and yet you commies enjoy it, curious!" :very-intelligent:

Shuddup, what is more Marxist then giving people gifts? Eat my tinsel infused doodoo.

what is more Marxist then giving people gifts?

At the start of the 1800s, Christmas was a time when seasonal workers were without work, so they would do revelry in the streets, eating and drinking publicly. The Christmas season was once a period were the proletariat could publicly show their discontent with the bourgeoisie.

There's a Christmas tradition where I live that involves disguising yourself and others as a group and essentially forcing (works on vampire rules, you knock and loudly ask to come in and if the door opens everyone rushes in) your way into someone's house, eating all their food, drinking all their booze, and leaving before they figure out who you are.

It was banned for a while in the mid 1800s because people started using it as an opportunity to target the merchants that paid them in company credit and kept them permanently in debt and stopped "asking" to be let in, resulting in at least 1 death. People didn't stop, so it was eventually allowed with a license but the government just stopped issuing licenses after a while and it nearly died out, but it came back sometime around the 40s I believe as the chiller celebration it is now.

It's anachronistic to say Jesus was a Socialist, but he was a comrade. I am always saying this.

what is more marxist than giving people gifts?

Taking gifts from the rich (including their vital organs) to give to the poor.

Still got 2 hours left to Tibbs eve for me! I'm no Christmas Scrooge but despite being my least favorite of the holidays something about this year has me looking forward to it

Christmas is a time for revelry, and I'm tired of the tame protestant version we have celebrated far too long. More public drinking, more demanding food from your feudal lord.

Unpopular opinion: my close friends and partner don't do gifts, and it's actually kinda nice. Like honestly, there's no stress about finding the perfect gift for someone.

The rest of the year, I'll buy shit for people left and right. Like I'll happily pay for dinner or get trainers (sneakers) for a younger friend.

Money is tight for my entire family. We're forgoing gifts and just getting together to cook and reconnect.
