    That's true. My point was not to argue whether the Irish as a people benefited/still benefit from colonial structures though, my point was that preventable, massive loss of life is not "earned" or desirable in any case.

    Sometimes lives will be made forfeit in the defense of class position, and unfortunate choices will have to be made then for the purpose of the revolution, but to me, a principled leftist should fight to prevent mass death and suffering whenever possible, otherwise we're just killing people for a kick.

    The Irish potato famine did barely nothing to advance anticolonial struggles, so to say it was deserved/necessary from an anticolonial standpoint is not only wrong, it's unnecessarily cruel.
