What the title says, I was talking to someone last month and they'd mentioned how they get boosters on their own schedule and that because of the dysfunctional nature of US healthcare no one keeps track or cares. I switched insurance this January to a new insurance company and it seemed like a good time to test it out. I just said that I'd lost my card and my last shot was earlier than when the bivalent boosters were released and went to a different pharmacy than I had previously had gone to. I know a few people who have had breakthrough cases since getting their bivalent boosters in September and wanted to avoid this. I figured I would share this info since we're more or less on our own for preventing infection.
Good. My coworker wanted to lie and get a booster before they were authorized for it, because it had been a year since their last booster, but ended up waiting. In the mean time they got covid, and are still dealing with post covid issues 3 months later.
This literally happened to me in May of 2022. I got my previous booster in November of '21 and then they had non-immunocompromised people wait for the Bivalent shot despite waning immunity, I had thought about just getting another one since it had been >6 months, but thought it was against "the rules" so I didn't and got covid. I've gotten covid twice, in 2020 and 2022, and I have no intention of getting it a 3rd time.
I got my bivalent booster the first day I could. Been thinking it has to be time for a new one but idk they'd give it to me
COVID vaccination is said to protect against hospitalization for 4 months, so 4 months is the frequency I've been aiming for
I'm coming up on 4 months since my shot so I better look into getting another then
Yeah, I got mine the first week of September or around then. I think I missed 4 months by 3 days, but I'll be traveling in two weeks and wanted to be prepared in advanced.
Sounds like a good idea. I got a bivalent shot in September, and now I have COVID, so it's definitely not perfect.
Unfortunately my state keeps too good of records for this. It pops up right on the screen regardless of where I go. Sad.
I wish we could get a non-mrna vaccine in the states... I'm pro vaccine, but I get apprehensive when i read about vaccine news from some people I trust. I still got the bivalent, though, when it first was released in the summer.
