The man is the Brazilian equivalent of Bernie Sanders, he isn’t going to establish communism in Brazil, at best he’s a human tourniquet meant to stop the bleeding caused by liberal capitalism and United States imperialism. He made terrible decisions when he was president from 03-10, he approved the World Cup and the Olympics for example. Anyone who knows anything about these international sporting events knows they are white elephants that are not good for economies.

I’m not saying “fuck Lula” or that we need to impeach him now, I’m just saying only support him in the context of pissing of right wing chuds. He’s a capitalist leader of a capitalist country who drapes himself with a socialist flag, he isn’t going to cause much change in that environment. But you know someone who did cause a lot more change in a capitalist country as a capitalist? Nelson Mandela. If you want to compare Lula’s success to any country it should be to that of South Africa.

Brazil has a lot of systemic race and class issues similar to South Africa and if Lula can address it in a similar way to what happened in South Africa then he can have a W. If he is successful in cracking down on the right wing in Brazil then he can move Brazil towards a position that is capable of becoming communist after his presidency.

Just know LULA IS NOT A COMMUNIST, this site is not his fan club, we made the same mistake with AOC, hell we made the same mistake with Bernie, some of you are old enough to have made that mistake with Obama. Don’t invest your heart into liberal politics. Invest it into communist politic. Give a communist leader former or current your energy! Be an trans-Stalinist, I don’t care. Liberal politicians only get critical support, save that unconditional support for the big boys.

i don't know , any complaint about lula i am reading here would be easily beaten by a classic brazilian argument "don't care, he literally removed more people out of hunger than any person in this country history" like he is not a communist, but i did not vote on lula because of that, i voted on him because it sucks to read about people starving, it is brutal to see images of people getting bones to eat in a butcher's garbage dump, and he was the one person i knew would do something about that and also he is a socialist, in brazilian terms and for sure in american terms, like it is not that he is not left he is just not as left as the spectrum gets here and that is fine, like i don't think you get the support of the brazillian landless rural workers movement and its urban counterpart he gets without being an actual leftist
