The man is the Brazilian equivalent of Bernie Sanders, he isn’t going to establish communism in Brazil, at best he’s a human tourniquet meant to stop the bleeding caused by liberal capitalism and United States imperialism. He made terrible decisions when he was president from 03-10, he approved the World Cup and the Olympics for example. Anyone who knows anything about these international sporting events knows they are white elephants that are not good for economies.

I’m not saying “fuck Lula” or that we need to impeach him now, I’m just saying only support him in the context of pissing of right wing chuds. He’s a capitalist leader of a capitalist country who drapes himself with a socialist flag, he isn’t going to cause much change in that environment. But you know someone who did cause a lot more change in a capitalist country as a capitalist? Nelson Mandela. If you want to compare Lula’s success to any country it should be to that of South Africa.

Brazil has a lot of systemic race and class issues similar to South Africa and if Lula can address it in a similar way to what happened in South Africa then he can have a W. If he is successful in cracking down on the right wing in Brazil then he can move Brazil towards a position that is capable of becoming communist after his presidency.

Just know LULA IS NOT A COMMUNIST, this site is not his fan club, we made the same mistake with AOC, hell we made the same mistake with Bernie, some of you are old enough to have made that mistake with Obama. Don’t invest your heart into liberal politics. Invest it into communist politic. Give a communist leader former or current your energy! Be an trans-Stalinist, I don’t care. Liberal politicians only get critical support, save that unconditional support for the big boys.

He's not a communist? Wow. I didn’t know that. You are telling me now for the first time. He led an amazing campaign. What else can you say. Whether you agreed or not, he was an amazing liberal who led an amazing presidential run. I am actually sad to hear that. I am sad to hear that.

What do you mean a country of 200 million doesn't have a communism switch you can just flip.

Hexbear, like most of the leftist internet at large, is filled with people who desperately want to be sure that you know that someone who's done something good actually isn't all that good.

TBF we really don't know how AOC would act if she was A) not a tiny minority in her own part and B) elected president right after Trump and C) 40 years older

Thank you for the important reminder not to enjoy our victories too much. We at Hexbear™️ have really been struggling lately with all that Toxic Optimism going around. The left is just too eager to win these days!

The sentiment is obviously shared by many and i understand "You dont HAVE to support noncommunist politics" but you lost me at "STOP supporting this PLEASE". Sus mindset you should really reckon with.

EDIT: TO THE LULAG WITH YE :lula-bars:

i don't know , any complaint about lula i am reading here would be easily beaten by a classic brazilian argument "don't care, he literally removed more people out of hunger than any person in this country history" like he is not a communist, but i did not vote on lula because of that, i voted on him because it sucks to read about people starving, it is brutal to see images of people getting bones to eat in a butcher's garbage dump, and he was the one person i knew would do something about that and also he is a socialist, in brazilian terms and for sure in american terms, like it is not that he is not left he is just not as left as the spectrum gets here and that is fine, like i don't think you get the support of the brazillian landless rural workers movement and its urban counterpart he gets without being an actual leftist

    :lula-bars: LULAG!

edit: anyway Social Democracy/Democratic Socialism has much different implications in an exploited country than it does in the imperial core. Unless Lula sponsors military exploits in other countries to guarantee access to cheap resources that pay for the policies he supports, he's far better than Bernie Sanders or any Eurocentric SocDem.

I'm literally about to press the button right now. It's out here in the forgotten woods next to a giant stone Lenin head of eons past, with a skeleton slumped in front of it. Cobwebs have bound it in a strange pose as if it was just about to press it. No idea what's up with that. I'll be right back: pushing this button.

Bernie Sanders is no Lula. Not even close. Sure when he got elected last time he ruled as a social democrat, but did it without using imperialism to pay for it, which isnt the same as European succ dems. More importantly we're seeing how not Bernie he is by actually arresting fascists, and seems like he's going to purge them as well.

I wasn't expecting Brazil to become a socialist state now, or in the near term. But Lula deserves some respect, he's not AOC

Socdems in the west want to perpetuate imperialist exploitation. Socdems in South America generally at least want to negotiate better terms.

And Lula did it without having to steal from poorer countries. I can't say the same for the European/Nordic Socdem governments.

I think it was cool as fuck that China hosted the Olympics. Demonstrated that the west can suck it, China can do spectacle like only commies can. All opinions of China being communist or not will be ignored thank you.

2008 was the first time I remember hearing both the news and regular people talking about China in frightened terms. That opening ceremony with its highly synchronized dancing somehow shocked people. White Americans had never seen such coordination and practice I guess.
