Considering Adolf Heusinger became chairman of the NATO military committee 3 years after this cartoon was published, it's fair to say it isn't inaccurate at all. Also, West Germany was allowed into NATO in 1955, less than 10 years after the Holocaust. Denazification was very swiftly declared a done deal (without evidence) by Konrad Adenhauer, and the German "miracle on the Rhine" commenced. This was declared a victory of capitalist efficiency, but it really was just quasi-colonization of Germany by the USA through the Marshall plan. Direct Foreign Investment leading to rapid reconstruction of West Germany, so that it could be used as the front line of the "Iron Curtain," was the goal all along. "Iron Curtain" of course being what Churchill called the border between the Capitalist West and the Socialist East, a border that was more strongly imposed by NATO than it was by the Warsaw Pact, given that NATO formed in 1949, and the Warsaw Pact didn't form until 1955, when the Soviets saw NATO literally re-building Germany.
