    Wait, the US doesn't have a lot of labor friendly laws, but doesn't the WARN act prevent this? Or, I suppose, at least have some consequences when it does happen?

      I'm mostly ignorant about labor laws but it certainly seems to me that when it comes to enforcement (and punishnment) - the laws are a sick joke.

      most of these are circumvented by not firing you, but paying you to do nothing for the period of time you would normally get warned, you're technically still employed, just not allowed to touch anything
