Our insidious culture of consumerism, vile propaganda, competition, class warfare, etc. is something no human should ever be exposed to or experience
I feel like basically two decades of my life have just been a write-off. Like the things I had to put up with kept me from living, I genuinely had the feeling like I was a zombie, already dead, shuffling through the motions for most of my life. Like making friends or going places or trying new things and experimenting, and all the other shite that young people are supposed to do to enjoy their childhood, learn, and grow up. I'm in such a better place now but I feel like I'll always be doing catch-up. If I had been encouraged earlier maybe I'd already be good at drawing, or I'd have more social experiences so I'm not so awkward or I might have been able to come out with my gender identity sooner or I'd have had sex by now ( :volcel-kamala:) or I'd have been financially secure and be able to see a doctor for once as a nearly 30 year old man.

yeah, same here. I'm 32 years old and missed my chance to do all that shit when I was a kid. Still never had sex or a girlfriend or a FWB or even a date... and it feels like there is no hope to really catch up on those things.
And I'm worried that even if I am ever fit to meet people, my chances to experience some more care-free dating are too late and women will just be worried about how much I "have my shit together" and my career prospects and all that crap... I don't know, feels hopeless

Also, China's suicide rate is like half of America's. So statistically they're mentally much healthier too
But also, I'm not really talking about mental health issues. More about the way that we approach life and think about the world/society is vastly different

Everybody I've met from the global south is so much more grounded and humble in their knowledge of the world
Meanwhile, Westerners have to voice their opinions on anything as if they're the leaders of the world and are burdened to fix things
I think the way my brain works I'd be depresso under full communism too, so it's something that I've tried to learn to live with. But at least if I could work 10 fewer hours a week I'd be able to recover from bad days easier. I probably wouldn't have internalized guilt so much either.

It's a bit hard to put all my feelings into words but it's a completely different vibe hanging out with a lot of global south nationals

People I've met from non-western places seemed much more calm about the sudden appearance of obstacles and much less distressed when things don't go as planned
Yes, Westerners seem to believe they're in the pilot seat of every aspect in their life and are in denial when proven otherwise. Or they just go QAnon or China/Russia/trans/minority genocidal and create made up enemies that are "sabotaging" their life. They believe that life is "fair" and "just" and so when things don't go their way, they have no idea how to deal with it

Sometimes I think one of the best ways to understand America and the American experience is a deep and highly suffused traumatic experience we’re all living through together.
I think my mental health would've been actually much worse if I spent my entire life in my parent's home country instead of just my teenage years there. So I consider myself lucky for that
