Have you ever used windows and thought "this is too easy. I wish I had to Google how to install photoshop?"

Linux gives you that experience at the small price of making nerds happy.

For me it's more like the base system is so much more functional than Windows that the few things I have to find a guide for take up much less of my time. I don't have to spend any time disabling telemetry or downloading drivers.

what does linux do that windows doesnt

Depending on what you want to do, almost everything. Here's my favorite example for a casual user though. Desktop environments!

Want your desktop to look like Windows XP? Here you go

Want it to look like a Mac? Here's a couple

Want a desktop that looks like doom? Not even slightly an issue.

Want to be able to change which one you're using whenever you want? Easy! The desktop is just a program you can download and you can choose which one launches when you sign into your computer.

Or perhaps you'd like to mix and match elements? Many of these were just different plugins for desktop environments, so you can just switch out plugins to your hearts content.

There's a lot of great stuff about Linux, and I could go on about the ease of downloading software or how nice updating is compared to Windows. But this is a great visual example of just how much more control over your computer experience you would have with linux compared to Windows.

1,-Windows is not bakwards compatible. So with a new version your stuf may or may no longer work.

2,-newer windows use insane amount of resorces. Ram cpu etc. For example windows 10 applies the specter patch again (it shoul already be included in your hardware ) and makes it depending on aplication anything from 6 to 15% slower. Thats about the same diference between intel generations.

3,-my software is pirated windows defender deleets my exes automatically. In windows 7 i can tell it to go fuck itself i cant do that on 10. So i cant use 10.

4,- new hardware des not have drivers for old windows versions. So if i were to change my old video card i wold have to change to linux or windows 10.

Huh, what software? I've never had this with anything. I'm mostly just pirating games, but also had one of the last one-time-payment versions of MS Office for a while.

Less spyware. No need to have a Microsoft account to use your computer or go through the hassle of getting past that configuration prompt.

I tried to use linux but i have to reinstall everything again within the emulator window or the wine dialogue box its very inconvinient. I dont remember it being that bad 13 years ago.

Also there is a fucking app store! One of the reasons i am sitching to linux is that i dont want aything to do with an app store. And now tgere is one?!!

On the plus side you can directly paste stuff on the console that is very convinient.

Linux has had this for years prior to other OSes actually - if you've ever used the apt (or yum, or pacman) package manager, that's basically an app store* without an interface.

*It's not really an app store in the sense that Apple or Microsoft's is though because it's all free, so you might think of it as an app library (selected for compatibility) I guess.

I've been thinking about switching over because I recently rebuilt my computer and only have like 5 games installed. An app store does sound depressing.

Not an app store unless it's some scam distro. It's a repo that has ready-to-install apps and keeps everything updated. Ever install anything on Windows but then you get an error because some .dll or .NET framework is missing? The repo system takes care of all that.

I use Garuda Linux and have had no issues with games but it's a bit unstable. Maybe try Fedora or Manjaro.

If you have a few programs it may be worth it. The new mint installer even has an interface that lets you dual boot windows without having to change disk priority on bios.

I didnt do this because i like having my stuff spread into their own disks but it may be handy to you.

And since you can paste stuff on the consle the yransition is not as hard as it used to be.
