In a new interview, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates said he views China's global ascent as a "huge win for the world." As the East Asian nation’s economy has seen major growth in recent years, the billionaire commented positively on China when he was asked by Michael Fullilove, executive director of Australia-based think tank the Lowy Institute, at an in-person event on Monday how “bullish” he was on the country. You know, I do think the current mentality of the U.S. to China — and which is reciprocated — is kind of a lose-lose mentality.
Watching an hour of Bill Gates is something I refuse to do, but I did go back and scrub through the video. It seems like the majority of the context is Gates spreading "we'll never know what China really did about covid" nonsense, and I'd suspect this is the bit he threw out appear unbiased.
It's very funny that this is the only part of the quote to be deemed worthy of reporting. If it gets spread enough I'm sure we'll get a super sinophobic snopes article out of it.
Honestly I think Gates is probably one of the most aware billionaires, and fully aware of the consequences of his actions and how to lie about it. :melon-musk: is dangerous, sure, but Gates is a real fucking sicko and existential threat.
