The Fire Emblem series is a reactionary wet-dream, literally the kinds of games the Romanovs would have played. Utterly dogshit monarchist ideology running through every game in the series, coupled with astoundingly bad sexual politics. No surprise they're among the first things mentioned in "What made you a monarchist?"-type threads on reactionary forums.
And the one Fire Emblem game(FE 3 Houses) that somewhat subverts this general narrative of the series in one of its paths(Black Eagles) is the most controversial and hated while the most ideologically monarchical/pro status-quo path(Blue Lions) is the most loved and least hate-bombed. The Black Eagles path even mentions the sexual/physical violence women face with their magic system(crest) and how systemic it is under the current order.
Wait FE3H is hated? I thought it was a huge success?? It was the best-selling Fire Emblem game and I don't recall a broad dislike of the game on the subreddit. Compare that with Pokémon that does have great sales but is now very divisive.
Sorry it was unclear, I was referring to the most openly anti status-quo branching path(Black Eagle) of the 3 story paths in FE 3 Houses not the game itself. I recall the subreddit having a hate boner for the Black Eagle path, which funnily enough contains pseduo-liberal revolutionary ideas in a fantasy medieval setting and the Black Eagle main lord being a class traitor. The hate for it is probably way toned down from the early days.
Ohh yes I understand that path was quite divisive. It certainly didn't help that Dimitri and Edelgard are practically different people in each other's routes, and lots of people were arguing from the POV of the route they chose... Ah yes those arguments were annoying.
FE4 - Genealogy of the Holy War is among the more questionable ones. You have to pair your army up in act 1 so that you have the best kids to use for your characters in act 2. There's characters descended from legendary hero bloodlines that are just objectively better and can use the OP hero weapons.
The story also features an incestuous villain that's abducting and sacrificing children to gain the power of an evil dragon god.
It's a weird ass questionable game, but it's really fun and I can't recommend it enough to fans of the genre.

The blue haired sword twinks made me a monarchist. :blushing-engels:
It's so weird to think anyone's
takeaway from the series is "I'm going to become a monarchist!" I love the games, but it's clearly not a good model to base your beliefs on.
I have this idea in my head for a Fire-Emblem-like where the first act is some lordling and his buddies racing to foil a plot to poison his father, and in the second act you play as the peasant uprising they were ignoring, and end up having to decide how much of the act 1 cast to kill.

Series is generally pretty awful though. :cringe:

The problem there is that you have to make the lordling likeable to get them to play the game far enough for shit to get good.
