The US handling this about as well as you'd expect a child to handle this sort of thing. Except unlike a child who would threatent to punch and scream the US could potentially kill millions if they keep going down this route.
Its not hyperbolic to say it threatens billions. These psychopaths genuinely want a Great War With China, which could threaten organized human life as we know it today even if nuclear weapons were not used. An all out conventional war between the US and China ( starting in the South China sea or over Taiwan or even Korea) could disrupt globalized capitalism to a point of plunging large parts of the world into economic meltdown and political chaos bringing some regions into possible famine conditions particularly in Africa(which they already on the brink of).
