    It was a runway overrun after an aborted takeoff. Either the pilots noticed something wrong with the plane or didn't think they could takeoff for another reason, and tried to stop the plane. They weren't able to stop it in time so they rolled off the end of the runway. At least that's what's being reported now.

    Also, it's a -300, and while I wasn't able to find the manufacturing date yet (flight aware lists an Airbus for this flight oddly), manufacturing of that variant stopped in 1999. I doubt this has anything to do with the current Boeing manufacturing issues.

      Pilot error or brake malfunction, very rare that it’s anything else. Or, theoretically it could be an incorrect weight being provided on the release. V1 is calculated before takeoff and any attempt to stop beyond that speed will result in running off the end. The only reason that should happen is if the plane physically cannot take off. Inserting some irrelevant bit about the max at the end of the article just makes them look totally clueless.
