Like, it's good that this guy is operating like this. But it somehow feels... gross... that you're making this woman even show up to court to begin with.

We're peeling back the curtain on enormous social justice problems, and the judge is fixing it with... $25 donations from randos?

I know there's limits to what a guy like this can do, but the whole spectacle feels way too "White Man's Burden"-y. Especially when the constable/sheriff guy casually notes that he can't take care of a ten month baby. Like, they're implying that they can take her kid for being poor. Fucking horrendous.

But hey, they didn't take her baby. They gave her a few bucks. I guess that's Social Democrats in action for you.

Just because it's a guy who has far more power than he should. He has the power to ruin people's lives, and the only reason he isn't is because he's a personally good guy. Probably, judging by this clip anyway. It's not the people we're opposing, it's the structures of power they wield against us.

Because you can tell this judge knew that he was being recorded, and that this would be shared as evidence that the system will work fine as long as the right people hold power.

Because one cannot help but think out the results of countless similar cases where the judge was not so gracious.

Because you could see the absolute deference towards the judge on the woman's face, as he held her future in his hands, and you can tell that the judge REALLY likes it when people look at him that way.
