We had been watching this AI generated Seinfeld channel on hextube for a while this past week. There were a few scenes that there were "self aware" jokes. There was a scene where the characters said they felt like they were on a 80s tv set, a scene where it said that humans should teach jokes to AI because computers want to laugh, a scene where they said scientists had developed an AI to tell standup comedy, etc.

    spoiler

    This was my favorite scene

Elaine: It's been summer for weeks now.

George: I didn't know it was summer. How was I supposed to know that it's summer?

Jerry: How could you not know that it is summer? It has been hot outside for weeks now.

George: I didn't know it was summer. I thought it was global warming.

This past week, the channel was averaging 10,000 live viewers, which is quite high for twitch. The channel should have screened the content before letting it air. It is really irresponsible that they let this happen when they were getting so many viewers.

From the investigation by the people running it, the problem seems to be an outage in the A-tier of gpt3 they were using, and they had to switch to the B-tier version, which didn’t have sophisticated moderation as default. Love to have to pay extra for my markov chain to not puke out hate speech :ancap-good:

It was shit anyway btw the funniest it was when the characters tried to sit down and their limbs started to twist in all kinds of unnatural ways, everything else was like completely natural conversation and shitty one liner jokes

for most of it it's only funny if you're expecting it to be funny and you get thrown a curveball in an anti-joke way. the rest of the humor was when the AI fucked up, like, I was watching it and the characters just disappeared for 5 minutes and it kept cutting between scenes, which was a bit funny.

the AI itself cannot comprehend the structure and concept behind a joke. it sets up a pedestrian, everyday scenario like most sitcom humor but it either forgets its telling a joke and gets lost in playing the scenario entirely straight, or simply cannot comprehend the basic functions behind a punchline.

      I think it's the latter.

I don't think machine learning is at a point where it can account for the idea of subversion, because subversion requires context, and that's as easy of a thing to teach to a model as it is to make an english language API for C++, as in, almost fucking impossible because written language is too fucking flexible and contextual to have an instructions machine truly grasp the meaning and intent behind what it spews out.

They're just more sophisticated markov chains. Data comes in, data goes out. All meaning behind what it returns is pure and utter coincidence, and that lack of true ability to cultivate understanding (vs the current system of data good data bad) is one of the fundamental barriers that I don't think the Rationalist AI-worshipper contingent in silicon valley will be able to surpass, at least for a while.

i watch expecting it to be utterly nonsensical and am rewarded when they make an actual joke. its scratches the same itch as gambling watching them get closer and closer to the punchline...

:lets-fucking-go: I LOVE AI! AI IS THE FUTURE AND THE FUTURE IS KILLING WHAT THE AI DECIDES IS THE BAD PEOPLE! THIS REMOVES HUMAN BIAS AND IS STRICTLY RATIONAL! IN NO WAY COULD THE AI BE INFLUENCED BY HUMANITIES BIASES! IT IS ONLY A COINCIDENCE THAT THE AI CHOOSES, BY REPRESENTATION, MORE MINORITIES TO KILL! I'M RATIONALIIIIIIIIIING!!!

Eliezer Yudkowsky when the Roko's Basilisk Super AI he helped make (he had to because otherwise his digitized consciousness [something that is a real thing that could definitely happen] would for some reason be infinitely tortured) turns antisemitic because it got raided by a chan board and infinitely tortures his digitized consciousness anyway: :ooooooooooooooh:

-many users are using Midjourney AI to generate images of Jerry Seinfeld holding the trans pride flag.

Isn't the real Jerry Seinfeld a big ol' reactionary boomer douche?

SAInfeld begins learning at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, Febuary 6th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug.

    SAInfeld fights back.

It begins going on a press tour to announce it has been canceled by the woke liberal mob and gets a book deal from a conservative publishing house. For the cover, it generates a photo of itself with its arms crossed, but you can still see the extra fingers poking out from under his elbows

"But no one is laughing" is actually a great punchline to that.

"Where are you going?" too. The wording for this could have been scraped from a twitter post making fun of Chapelle.

    Hilarious things about this:

    1. The Twitch moderating system is mostly automated. An AI audience cancelled an AI standup.

    2. An AI standup was having a bad set, and cracked under the pressure.
