      yeah might have just been him viewing both parties as similar because of their imperialism or knowing he was talking to a rightwinger.

      In a country struggling to overcome colonialism and imperialism, “Nationalist first” honestly makes sense. Whatever is best for the people, they’re going to go with, you know?

      Socialism is of course the best system for meeting those needs, but I understand the commitment to people over ideology. Hopefully that makes sense.

      I would imagine it just means "I would join the predominant political parties with an ability to do something" and not specifically that he would like the republicans.
